SASNET Methods Workshop: Mixed Methods and Positionality in Feminist-Inspired Research on Water, Development & Environment
SASNET invites Lund University PhD students to a workshop discussing mixed methods in doing empirical research, taking inspiration from feminist theory.
In this workshop, we discuss the use of mixed methods in doing empirical research, taking inspiration from feminist theory. The focus will be on gender, masculinities, technology and water management, relying on research work done in South Asia (Nepal, India) and Southern Africa. Some of the methods that will be discussed are: multi-sited ethnographic observations, life history interviews, historical documentation research, photo analysis, map analysis, and film and videopodcast making.
The issue of positionality in research and relying on a professional-insider position will also be discussed. The aim is to question what is considered ‘normal’ in scientific and professional practice, in this case in the world of water management, and challenge performances of masculinity, whiteness and heteronormativity that are associated with foreign aid and international development cooperation.
Please register for the workshop here.
Registration deadline: 22 November.
